1940s Dzus Fastener poster
The self-explanatory text for this advertisement is complemented by a striking illustration that shows every conceivable form of transportation in the early 1940s, while a Dzus fastener circles the globe. These devices were indeed ubiquitous, but they are best known for securing aircraft cowlings in place.

The staggering variety of these fasteners is only hinted at. Ukrainian-born inventor William Dzus filed 32 patents during his career in America and over 6,000 variations had been developed by the time of his death in mid-1964. The thunderbolt in the upper right corner of the poster indicates that "Dzus" is pronounced like the name of the Greek deity Zeus.
